Mashonaland West Province is positioning itself as one of Zimbabwe’s fastest-growing regions, with Government officials highlighting major infrastructure developments during a high-level media tour led by Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Hon. Marrian Chombo, and Permanent Secretary for Information, Mr Nick Mangwana.
The tour, designed to showcase ongoing “mega projects,” opened at the Mangura Silos, where Minister Chombo underscored the province’s strategic importance in agriculture and mining.
“Mashonaland West is the heart of Zimbabwe, known for its rich mining and agricultural resources. The province has a big capacity for silos, but these silos are not enough,” she said, noting that the Mangura Silos—at 56,000 metric tonnes—are among the province’s most advanced storage facilities.
However, she highlighted ongoing challenges, particularly farmers being forced to travel long distances to store their grain, a situation Government says it is working to address.
Provincial Mechanisation Engineer Ignatious Ruzoza said modernising grain storage infrastructure is part of the devolution programme under NDS1, which prioritises updated agricultural systems and improved rural industrialisation.
The delegation also visited the National Aids Council offices to assess ongoing infrastructure upgrades aimed at strengthening provincial service delivery.
Government officials further revealed that construction is underway for a new Government complex expected to ease the existing shortage of office accommodation.
At Chinhoyi University of Technology, the team toured Varsity Heights, a newly built, state-of-the-art student residence funded by the Public Service Pension Fund and partners.
The facility will house 384 students, offering modern amenities including high-speed Wi-Fi, a gymnasium and other student-centred services.
Minister Chombo reaffirmed Government’s commitment to accelerating development across key sectors, emphasising President Mnangagwa’s philosophy, “Nyika Inovakwa Nevene Vayo” — a nation is built by its people.
She expressed confidence in the province’s trajectory, describing Mashonaland West as one of Zimbabwe’s most promising regions.
The media tour sought to give journalists a first-hand look at the province’s progress, while highlighting Government’s broader drive to strengthen infrastructure, expand public services and support local communities.
