Chinhoyi — The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) in Mashonaland West Province has raised concern over a growing trend of violent crimes involving juveniles, following a series of disturbing incidents reported across the province.
According to a recent police statement, the surge in youth-related violence has highlighted deepening safety concerns and the urgent need for community intervention to curb juvenile delinquency.
On November 1, 2025, a murder occurred at Mawuto Bar Avalon in Chinhoyi, involving three male juveniles aged 17, 16, and 16, and a 23-year-old male suspect.
The group allegedly attacked Saston Muterazuva (23) of Destiny, Chinhoyi, following an altercation. Police reports indicate that the suspects used bricks and a Colombian knife to assault the victim before fleeing the scene. Muterazuva succumbed to his injuries.
In a separate incident on the same day at Carlton Curlie Farm in Banket, six unidentified men armed with a rifle ambushed security personnel, seriously injuring one guard identified as Lameck Dick.
The attackers reportedly abducted two security officers, who were later rescued. Police say investigations are underway to identify and apprehend the suspects.
ZRP Mashonaland West expressed concern over the frequency and brutality of recent crimes involving young people, noting that many of these cases stem from minor disputes that escalate into deadly confrontations.
“We are worried about the increasing number of murder cases being committed by juveniles,” police said in a statement.
“Most of these incidents involve the use of dangerous weapons such as Colombian knives, machetes, and axes.”
Authorities have urged communities, schools, and parents to work together in promoting youth discipline, conflict resolution, and moral guidance to address the underlying causes of violence among minors.
The police are appealing to anyone with information related to the recent crimes to assist in ongoing investigations.
The recent wave of violence has prompted calls for stronger community engagement and preventive education targeting young people.
Law enforcement officials say vigilance, mentorship, and early intervention remain key to deterring youth involvement in violent activities.
“These cases are a reminder that the safety of our communities depends on collective responsibility,” the statement added.
As investigations continue, the ZRP has reiterated its commitment to ensuring public safety and bringing perpetrators — regardless of age — to justice.
