Chinhoyi Provincial Heroes Acre was alive with energy as Mashonaland West Province marked the 45th Heroes Day commemorations.
Citizens from across the region gathered to honour the country’s heroes, past and present, in a celebration rich with pride and patriotism.
The event was graced by Hon. Marian Chombo, Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, who delivered a powerful message on behalf of President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Adding an international dimension to the occasion, a Namibian delegation led by Hon. Damien Maghambayi was also in attendance.
In her address, Hon. Chombo highlighted Zimbabwe’s developmental strides, ongoing challenges, and strategic plans for the future.
The President’s message underscored the values of unity, patriotism, and resilience as key pillars in building a prosperous, industrialized nation.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to achieving upper-middle-income status under Vision 2030 and urged citizens to set their sights even higher.
“Forward ever, backward never,” Hon. Chombo proclaimed, echoing the President’s rallying call. “Success and prosperity are certain. Let us boldly decide now that we will not stop at upper-middle-income status or Vision 2030. Let us break the ceiling and see beyond the horizon.”
The crowd responded with thunderous applause, their faces lit with resolve. The President’s message, delivered with conviction by Hon. Chombo, was a powerful reminder of Zimbabwe’s rich heritage and the unyielding spirit of its people.
The celebrations were vibrant and diverse, showcasing the country’s cultural wealth. Performers included local favourites Mr. Chinhoyi and the Stumu Boys, the dynamic Kadoma Martial Arts group, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) band, and the internationally acclaimed Mbira Spirit Group from Canada. Provincial Chairman Mary Mliswa also played a key role, notably in the solemn laying of flowers at the heroes’ graves.
As the ceremony drew to a close, Hon. Chombo announced the conferment of honours and awards to both living and departed heroes in recognition of their service to the nation.
Among the recipients were Senator Prisca Mupfumira, Zimbabwe Land Commissioner Ruth Bare, and Hon. Marian Chombo herself — each honoured for their notable contributions to Mashonaland West and the nation at large.
The 45th Heroes Day celebrations in Mashonaland West were not just a tribute to history but a clarion call for the future — a moment that brought Zimbabweans together in remembrance, reflection, and renewed determination.
Through the President’s message, a clear vision was shared: one of unity, pride, and collective progress toward a greater Zimbabwe.
