Makonde Rural District Council has every reason to celebrate after being awarded First Prize for Best Exhibitor among all local authorities in Mashonaland West Province.
The honor was received with pride by Council Chairman Cllr Misheck Nyarubero and Makonde Constituency Member of Parliament Hon. Simbarashe Ziyambi, who both commended the council’s exceptional performance.
The prestigious accolade is a reflection of the council’s commitment to excellence and innovation. Their exhibition, which featured a range of impactful projects and forward-thinking initiatives, stood out to the judges and captured the province’s top spot.
Both Cllr Nyarubero and Hon. Ziyambi expressed their admiration for the hardworking council staff, acknowledging their role in putting Makonde RDC on the map.
This victory aligns with a broader national trend of local authorities striving for improved service delivery and community engagement.
Across the country, councils are being recognized for championing local development. For instance, in the Midlands Province, five councils—Vungu RDC, Zibagwe RDC, Tongogara RDC, Chirumanzu RDC, and Gokwe Town Council—recently received Buy Zimbabwe Awards for prioritizing the procurement of locally manufactured goods.
The Buy Zimbabwe initiative is part of an ongoing effort to promote local industry, reduce reliance on imports, and stimulate economic growth through homegrown solutions. By acknowledging councils that support local procurement, the initiative encourages sustainable development and strengthens national pride.
In the context of Zimbabwe’s push for devolution and community-based progress, Makonde Rural District Council’s latest achievement serves as a powerful example of what local governance can accomplish.
Their success story is not just a win for the council, but an inspiration to other local authorities across the country.
