Zimbabwe’s top sungura singer Alick Macheso turned 55 on 10 June 2023 and what a milestone for the bassist.
The Orchestra Mberikwazvo lead singer has over two decades in music marked by top selling albums including Simbaradzo, Zvido Zvenyu Kunyanya, Magariro, Vakiridzo, Zvakanaka Zvakadaro and more recently Dzinosvitsa Kure and Tinosvitswa Nashee.
While Macheso has travelled the breath and length of Zimbabwe he is yet to fully take sungura beyond borders.
At age 55, Macheso can safely say he has done his part in contributing to the music industry and also preserve a sound that identifies with Zimbabweans.
He is now grooming his biological sons Tatenda and Esau who launched their debut album in celebration of his birthday.
Of course, Macheso is renowned for his bass guitar skills, a good number of his fans expect that he will impart those same skills to the younger Machesos for posterity.
