Controversial LEAD President, Linda Masarira, debuts on Shoko Comedy Roast, a face-off with some of the Zimbabwe’s top comedians led by Doc Vikela as the ‘Roastmaster.
A first at this year’s edition of Shoko Festival, Shoko Roast is slated for Thursday September 23 curated by Simuka Comedy.
According to festival director Samm Farai Monro AKA Comrade Fatso, will be one of the highlights at the festival and it promises to be a hit.
“The show will see popular Zimbabwean celebrities get together for an epic roast of a well-known public personality.
“This is the first time we are having it and yah it was an idea by Doc Vikela and he actually asked Linda to be the guest and she agreed. The comedians will take turns to grill her and she will also get her chance to grill the comedians,” he said.
Doc Vikela is not new on the scene having been a part of Shoko Festival since inception and this year it remains to be seen whether or not Linda will stand the heat. Also another highlight will be the presence of DJ Iroq for the Mash Ups Night on September 24.
The show is expected to bring the weekend flavour as the festival presents an event featuring never-seen-before artistic collaborations.
Another notable event will be Mash Ups Night where Shoko Festival teamed up with Masofa Panze and Djembe Monks to curate a night of brand new urban musical collaborations including Dancehall Kedha, Mimi Tarukwana, Sylent Nqo and GZE.
Shoko 2021 reaches its climax on Saturday 25th September in a jam-packed Peace In The Hood with lots of plot twists for our virtual audience.
Shoko Festival will run over 6 days and will include diverse programming with different themes every night. It will be streamed online on the Shoko Facebook and YouTube pages.
Shoko Festival has continued to host festivals every year since 2011 in the midst of difficult circumstances over the years that range from Covid-19 restrictions to economic and social challenges that exist in the country most of which have affected the arts industry. This year is by no means an exception.
