Zimbabwe’s Women’s Rugby 7s have a new kit as part of a deal with Rocomamas.

The new jersey unveiled Wednesday at Sam Levy’s Village saw the lady Cheetahs donning the Rocomamas branded black jerseys, tracksuits as well as backpacks.

Speaking at the unveiling, Coach Dereck Chiwara, commended Rocomamas, a fast food chain and subsidiary of Simbisa Brands for the continued support.

“We’re delighted with the sponsorship deal and this will boost our confidence as we compete in Tunisia and other international games.

“As you might be aware women’s rugby is the fastest growing sport not only in Zimbabwe but in Africa so the level of competition has also grown.

“We thank Rocomamas for the sponsorship and hopefully it takes us through so that we take the girls to Africa where they will compete with the best. We are keen to go to all the tournaments,” he said.

Lawrence Nyamuziwa, the general manager of Rocomamas, said the Lady Cheatahs resonate well with their brand.

“People are always asking why we are sponsoring the Cheaters,, well it is because we identify with the girl child.

Even when you look at Rocommamas structure, my accountant is a woman, the shop manager is a woman and 80 percent of waiters are women. I’m surrounded by women.

“We do not do the normal so this is why we support women’s rugby,” he said.

Asked the value of the sponsorship, Nyamuziwa said they were prepared to take the Lady Cheatahs to every tournament.

“I think we are in it for the long haul because the team resonate with the brand. We want to push the girl child and that is the future of rugby and the country as well,” he said.

Women’s Rugby 7s captain Getrude Magwaro, said the team was hopeful to do better and make the sponsors and the nation proud.

She thanked Rocomamas for the good gesture and said they were ready to roll.
