KARIBA – Kariba Waves Football Club extended their winning streak to six matches in dramatic fashion Saturday, grinding out a hard-fought 1-0 victory over struggling Budget FC at a packed Nyamhunga Stadium.
Match-Winning Moment
The decisive blow came in the 66th minute when striker Tawanda Tizirai capitalized on a defensive lapse, slotting home past Budget’s keeper to send the Amagagasi Masai-sai faithful into raptures.
The goal proved enough to lift Waves to second place on 19 points, keeping their promotion dreams alive.
Game of Missed Chances
Despite controlling 62% possession and creating multiple first-half opportunities, Waves struggled to break down Budget’s low block until Tizirai’s intervention. Budget FC nearly equalized twice in the closing stages, but wayward finishing saw both attempts rattle the side netting – much to the relief of Waves’ backline.
Coaches’ Corner
“Three points is three points,” said a pragmatic Frances Chigirinya, Kariba Waves’ head coach. “We’re sticking to what works. The boys know promotion demands this consistency every week.”
Budget FC‘s Hari Pika struck a more frustrated tone: “The officiating . . . (pauses) Let’s just say we’ll fix our errors. The table doesn’t lie.” His side remains winless in five matches.
By The Numbers
6: Consecutive wins for Waves (best streak in division)
8: Shots on target by Waves vs Budget’s 3
19: Points from 8 games (6W-1D-1L) – their best-ever start
Despite operating without major sponsors, Waves continue drawing passionate local support. “These players fight for us,” said longtime supporter Grace Nyamadzawo, 54. “That goal felt like all of Kariba scored it!”
Waves face third-placed Lake Warriors in a top-of-the-table clash next Sunday, while Budget FC host basement side Riverside United in a must-win fixture.
With promotion within reach, Waves are proving that determination and community backing can overcome financial constraints. As one banner in the stands proclaimed: “Talent + Heart = History in the Making.”
