Kariba Lights Up with Takafanana — A Powerful Anthem for Unity and Inclusion

The shores of Lake Kariba turned into a festival of music, colour, and inspiration on Saturday as the Kariba Performing Arts Association dropped their brand-new anthem, “Takafanana,” at the Waterfront Resort.

Hundreds of music lovers, community leaders, and artists gathered under the sun to celebrate the launch of this soul-stirring track, which delivers a simple but powerful message: we are all the same. The song’s Shona title, Takafanana, captures the spirit of unity, acceptance, and hope that echoed across the waterfront.

“This isn’t just a song — it’s a movement,” declared Jacob Zulu of the Kariba Performing Arts Association.

“With ‘Takafanana,’ we’re using music to break down barriers and spread a message of true inclusion, especially for people living with disabilities.”

The launch party was buzzing with excitement, featuring heartfelt speeches, live performances, and a palpable sense of community.

Special guest speaker Chikomborero Jayiwa, director of Shark Cruises, praised the artists for using their talents to spark change.

“Songs like this uplift not just the artists but the whole community. It’s about celebrating every human being,” Jayiwa said, applauding the creative force of Simba Chikomo and Jacob Zulu.

The crowd — a lively mix of Kariba locals, media, residents’ associations, and even performers from across the border in Siavonga, Zambia — showed that Takafanana‘s message is already crossing boundaries.

Cheers, dances, and emotional moments filled the day as the video played for the first time, leaving many in the audience visibly moved.

As Takafanana spreads across Zimbabwe, the song is expected to strike a chord with listeners far beyond Kariba, fueling conversations about inclusion, dignity, and the beauty of our shared humanity.

For the people gathered at Lake Kariba, Saturday wasn’t just about launching a song — it was about setting a powerful movement into motion. And it’s only just getting started.
