Zimbabwean Rhumba fans were treated to music and dance by Le’ Superstar Jack Mapanga (real name Munyaradzi Jack Majarira) at the launch of his new album Rhumba Empire.
The packed Fortress 88 Ambassador Hotel in Harare famous for non-stop Rhumba music was the venue were followers thronged for a night out and drinks.
Rhumba music originated from Cuba in the 1800s and was introduced to Zimbabwe in the late 1990s by the then Zaire, now Democratic Republic of Congo, creatives and musicians. The music known by its electric dances took Zimbabwe by storm and it fast became popular.
Jack Mapanga, among other musicians, got inspired and has became a Rhumba Giant in Zimbabwe.
Rhumba Empire is a project that involves many artists and a national tour is under way. Mapanga told this media publication that so far confirmed shows will be held in Kariba, Victoria Falls and Masvingo.
Songs shared from the project on Saturday include “Manyama”, a song featuring Lady Storm, “Hupenyu” Classic Rhumba and “Kambucha”, a dance song.
“Mama Ngwasuma” Lady Storm (real name Lyn Magodo) later joined Mapanga on stage and gave a splendid show to the revellers who later did not want to leave the dance floor as they kept asking for more.
People danced to “Manyama Malabel Chete”, one of the most popular songs from the artiste. It was not a question of who has better dance moves but an event of enjoyment and relaxing.
