The nominees list is out and the stage is set what is left is for the curtain to raise on Zimbabwe Music Awards 2021 on Saturday February 20 starting at 8pm CAT.
The awards show will be streamed live on ZIMA Facebook page and across other social media platforms.
Benji Nyandoro, the ZIMA spokesperson said the virtual show will see stakeholders especially musicians in attendance.
“We invite all stakeholders, particularly the musicians beyond those nominated, to connect and join the celebrations. Our esteemed partners have further pledged to afford their respective customers a treat with exciting giveaways on the day,” he said.
There was an outcry within the show business after the ZIMA2021 released the nominees list dominated by newbies.
Consequently, there was debate on social media over the absence of big names in the likes of Winky D, Jah Prayzah, Mark Ngwazi, Alick Macheso, Selmor Mtukudzi, Van Choga and Gemma Griffiths among others but it has emerged that most of the popular artists did not submit their music or perhaps they did not anything new.
Some of the names who appeared on the list include Poptain, Anita Jaxson, Nutty O, Tongai Moyo (Jnr), Asaph, Baba Harare, Novuyo Shasha, Herman and Holy Ten among others.
However, there are big contenders including Janet Manyowa, Micheal Mahendere, Mambo Dhuterere, Nicholas Zachariah and Sulumani Chimbetu nominated for different categories.
It appears the global pandemic — Covid-19 — was a blessing in disguise as little knowns have hogged the spotlight much to the bemusement of the big names that retired to their shells amid the pandemic.
The Covid 19 triggered the ‘new normal’ of having a lot of innovation and transformation on how artists use digital platforms to showcase their music.
This is food on the table for the new crop because technology is what makes their generation.
At no point should Covid-19 pandemic be used as an excuse for those artists that slept on their laurels waiting for the lifting of the ban on social gathering and concerts.
Organisers have kept the lid on the host/hostess of the show saying it was a surprise.
