UNICEF and the Zimbabwe Economics Society, under the Child Budgeting Series, in collaboration with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education Thursday convened a High-Level Policy Dialogue (HLPD) on Education Sector Financing in Zimbabwe to make the goal of Free Basic Education a reality.
The HLPD is running under the theme Free Basic State-funded Education: Leaving No One Behind.
Speaking at the third Child Budget Series High Level Policy Dialogue on Education Financing, UNICEF Representative Dr Tajudeen Oyewale said the Policy Dialogue was intended to exchange knowledge and generate recommendations that would contribute towards shaping and improving policy and programme interventions and investment in quality, equitable and inclusive basic education for all children in Zimbabwe.
“This follows from the commitment made by the Government of Zimbabwe, together with other world leaders at the Transforming Education Summit (TES) held on the side of the United Nations General Assembly in September last year,” said Dr Oyewale.
“The discussion today will proffer solutions and strategies for increased education financing to ensure the Government of Zimbabwe to achieve its national and global commitments on Education.”
Initiated by the UNICEF and the Zimbabwe Economics Society, the Child Budgeting Series serves as a knowledge exchange platform to discuss how macro and microeconomic policies and investments impact children and seek to influence policy development in the social sectors.
The series features several policy issues across; education; health; child protection; water, hygiene, and sanitation; climate adaptation and mitigation; social protection; and other issues of importance to children in Zimbabwe.
