Former Veteran Radio 3 Presenter Fungai Marange was the main feature on ZBC Classic263 Radio programe, Sounds on Saturday which is presented every Saturday afternoon by legendary radio and television personality John “The Boss” Matinde.
Marange brought memories when he used to host The Weekend radio with songs such as Square Biz by Teena Marie and Pass The Paper by Direct Drive.
Speaking from his United States base, Fungai Marange, known to many as The Voice of Your Choice said it was refreshing to be back on one of the ZBC Stations, Classic263 Radio.
“It brought memories back and I always enjoy John Matinde‘s sense of humor and thanks for the invitation to Classic263 Radio.
“John set the standards for many of us. It was a great pleasure to share my recollections. I remember presenting SOS on ZBCTV when I was invited by Matinde.
“I learnt quite a lot from other guys like Tich Mataz, the late Alice Chavhunduka, the late Peter Johns, and Otis Fraser.”
Matinde, who was behind the formation of the then ZBC Radio Three after Independence, said the idea behind Classic263 SOS is to share memories through music.
“We also invite listeners to share their memories by sending in their messages and voice notes as well as choosing their songs.”
Matinde, who broadcasts from his base in The United Kingdom is giving listeners the opportunity to rekindle the days of ZBC TV Sounds On Saturday, but this time through Classic263 Radio which is managed by Terrence Mapurisana every Saturday.
“The original ZBCTV Sounds on Saturday (SOS) was both the sound track and the time check to many people’s lives.
“Music lovers in the 1980s and the ’90s and beyond would normally schedule their lives around Sounds on Saturday evening musical shows and this time the SOS is coming live on Classic263 Radio at 12 midday.”
Among Radio and Television personalities featured on Classic263 Radio SOS include George Munetsi, Sophie Chamboko, Maureen Maseko, Fungai “The Voice of Your Choice” Marange, Joseph “King” Hussein, Ronald D-Train Chiwanza, DJ HotCake, Plaxedes Dzangare, among others. Weekends, which are meant for adult contemporary listening, are coming back with fond memories as other former Radio Three presenters, Felix “The Happy Smiler” Nganjo, hosts the Sunday Spectrum Show 1300hrs to 1400hrs and on Saturday Sports World between 1400hrs and 1500hrs George Munetsi comes alive with his GITA Radio, sharing the decks with Jeff Danai Murembechi.
