Walter Wanyanya misses the legendary Oliver Mtukudzi, we all do!
But spare a thought for the former manager of the late iconic musician, they had a strong bond.
Wanyanya was all tears following a classic act by the Black Spirits’ Mtukudzi’s band.
While Mtukudzi is no more the performance brought memories of the legendary musician and many sang along.
But emotions took the better of Wanyanya who organized the successful Stanbic Bank Jacaranda Music Festival.
“I’ve never seen a man cry until I saw Walter on Saturday. He cried and couldn’t hold back his tears,” Mono Mukundu who was the lead guitarist for the Black Spirits said.
Sam Mataure who also played drums on the day confirmed Wanyanya cried.
The backing group which performed on Saturday left nothing to chance and pulled a great show from start to finish.
The group saw guest appearances by some of the former Black Spirits members including Dudu Manhenga, Samantha Mtukudzi and Fiona.
Each set was an emotional roller coaster for not just Wanyanya but the majority of the crowd that was on its feet throughout the performance.
Some of the hits played much to the delight of audiences include Ziwere, Zviri Kwamuri Mambo and Hear Me Lord, a track which was also redone by American singer Bonnie Raite.
This year’s edition of the Stanbic Bank Jacaranda Music Festival was extended to three days and it drew a cosmopolitan crowd.
Beautiful people and quality performances were the order for the three-day festival which although in its infancy has great potential to grow as big as the Harare international Festival of the Arts.
According to CNN, HIFA is rated among Africa’s Top 10 festivals to attend on the continent. HIFA is held over six days in and around the city centre.
