Zimbabwean businesswoman and celebrated fashion designer Faith Taruvinga, known fondly as “Amai Wadzie” or “Chihera,” passed away on Sunday at the age of 42.
Renowned for her vibrant personality and warmth, Faith left an indelible mark on the fashion and business communities.
The cause of her untimely passing has not yet been disclosed. However, Faith will be remembered for her remarkable contributions as a designer and social media influencer. She worked with several musicians including Alick Macheso, Tryson Chimbetu, Jah Prayzah and Suluman Chimbetu to mention but a few.
She successfully promoted several brands, including Hatirare, Big Deal, and House of Cheneso. The latter was especially notable for producing branded Zanu PF regalia and memorabilia.
Former Zanu PF Youth Leader Tendai Chirau, who collaborated with Faith on the House of Cheneso project, expressed his shock and sadness at her passing.
“The news of Faith’s death is deeply shocking. She was an integral part of the House of Cheneso youth project, which I initiated. Her recent low profile was uncharacteristic, and it’s heartbreaking to lose someone so dear. She treated me like her own son. Death truly is a thief. May her soul rest in peace,” Chirau said.
Faith was also the visionary behind the MimiKay brand, which specialized in designer clothing, footwear, and accessories. Her talent and dedication took her to international fashion events in Italy and Burkina Faso, where she proudly represented Zimbabwe.
Faith Taruvinga’s burial will take place today at Glen Forest Cemetery at 2 p.m., where loved ones and colleagues will gather to bid her a heartfelt farewell.
She is survived by her daughter Wadzi.
