The first live action on ESPN arrives on the morning of Friday 5 July, with back-to-back Major
League Soccer (MLS) matches, as FC Dallas hosts the Portland Timbers (02:30 LIVE on ESPN), followed by the El Trafico; derby between Los Angeles Galaxy and Los Angeles FC (04:30 LIVE on ESPN).
LA Galaxy coach Greg Vanney has asked key midfielder Riqui Puig to improve his tactical discipline: “His technical skills and creativity are top-notch, [but] there is room for growth in how he positions himself during matches.”
Vanney added, “I want him to avoid dropping too deep to receive the ball. Instead, he can be more effective and create more opportunities for the team if he operates higher up the pitch. There he can exploit his vision and passing skills to generate more scoring chances.”
The morning of Saturday 6 July features an Australian Football League (AFL) battle between
Geelong and Hawthorn (08:35 LIVE on ESPN), while more MLS arrives on the morning of Sunday 7 July: Philadelphia Union welcome New York Red Bulls to the & City of Brotherly Love; (01:30 LIVE on
ESPN), before the New England Revolution head to the Pacific North West for a match against the Seattle Sounders (04:30 LIVE on ESPN).
The MLS continues to enthrall on the morning of Monday 8 July, with a clash between the San Jose Earthquakes and the Chicago Fire (00:00 LIVE on ESPN) followed by the Colorado Rapids hosting St Louis City (03:30 LIVE on ESPN).

On ESPN 2, the first live action comes from the National Rugby League (NRL) on the morning of

Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 July follow a similar pattern, with NRL in the morning followed by MLB in the evening. Giants general manager Bob Melvin wants to see his side make major improvements – something they certainly didn’t manage in a recent heavy loss to the Diamondbacks: “That was a terrible game by us today, especially the early portion of the game, Melvin said. “When you’re going through losing streaks, at least you fight. For the most part we have. That was an awful game.”
