BULAWAYO — Delta Corporation’s US$35 million expansion at its Belmont Brewery is poised to become a catalyst for local employment and economic inclusion in Bulawayo.
The beverage giant’s new brewhouse and packaging line, launched with a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, is expected to generate construction jobs, provide opportunities for local artisans and suppliers, and create sustainable employment in the long term.
“This project is not only about beer — it is about jobs, skills, and growth,” said Delta Corporation Board Chairman, Mr. Todd Moyo. “We are committed to empowering Bulawayo and its surrounding communities.”
Delta’s focus on local sourcing includes working with Zimbabwean contractors, engineers, and logistics providers, as well as farmers and packaging suppliers. The investment also supports the company’s broader goal of inclusive growth and industrial renewal.
The expansion comes at a critical time for Bulawayo, a city historically known as Zimbabwe’s industrial hub but long affected by economic stagnation and deindustrialization. Delta’s renewed commitment is expected to boost confidence in the city’s potential.
“We are here to play our part in rebuilding confidence in Bulawayo’s future as a thriving industrial city,” said Mr. Moyo.
Beyond direct employment, Delta’s beer operations contribute significantly to the national economy through taxes and duties, with the company paying between US$18–20 million monthly in excise duty, VAT, PAYE, and other fiscal contributions.
Delta has called on the Bulawayo City Council and utility providers to ensure reliable water and electricity to support industrial growth.
The company is already partnering with the city to equip boreholes in Nyamandhlovu, install a new water line to Umguza, and resurface key access roads.
“This milestone belongs to our employees, our partners, and the people of Bulawayo,” Mr. Moyo concluded. “We are building not just a brewery, but a future for generations to come.”
