HARARE — The countdown to this year’s Castle Tankard has begun as 16 top-tier runners confirmed for the 65th edition.
Dubbed as Zimbabwe’s most prestigious horse race and running under the theme The 2025 theme, “The Legacy Continues”, the Borrowdale Park comes alive on Saturday, May 10, 2025.
Brought to life through the longstanding partnership between Mashonaland Turf Club and Delta Beverages, this year’s race promises to be the most thrilling yet, with US$50,000 in prize money up for grabs and a packed day of entertainment planned.
Scott Bucchan of the Mashonaland Turf Club hailed the enduring significance of the Castle Tankard.
“This race continues to be the crown jewel of Zimbabwean horse racing. We’re incredibly grateful to Delta Beverages for their unwavering support in making this spectacle possible year after year.”
Kundayi Mawema, Marketing Manager for Lagers at Delta Beverages, described the sponsorship as more than just a business arrangement.
“It’s a commitment to the heartbeat of horse racing in Zimbabwe,” Mawema said. “Last year’s race was electric, and this year, the energy is even higher. The big question remains — who will claim the glory?”
As always, the Castle Tankard promises more than just world-class racing. Live music, sizzling braais, and ice-cold Castle Lager at pump price will keep the festive atmosphere buzzing from start to finish.
Gates open early, and fans are encouraged to come in numbers for a full day of excitement.
From 10am to 7:30pm, the turf transforms into a festival ground as Delta Corporation partners with the Mashonaland Turf Club to bring you Zimbabwe’s most iconic Grade One horseracing event — and this year, it’s not just about the galloping hooves and the glittering trophy.
With a USD $50,000 prize pot on the line, the stakes are sky-high as top regional horses, jockeys, and trainers gear up to chase glory. But the action doesn’t stop at the finish line…
It’s a full-blown entertainment explosion! Think ice-cold Castle lagers, mouthwatering braais, and a stellar live music lineup that will set the crowd alight!
Taking the stage will be sungura king Alick Macheso, Zim dancehall favorites Enzo Ishall, Delroy Shewe, Nisha Ts, Oriyano, and the crowd-pumping Chillspot Family.
