Condolence messages have poured in following the death of top Zimbabwean comedian — Clive Chigubu — who passed away in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Chigubu succumbed to Diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL), a type of cancer that had left him bed ridden for some time.

Confirming the news, Chigubu’s uncle, Prince Mboweni said the comedian passed away around 5.30am on Wednesday morning.

“I would like to let everyone know that this unfortunate incident occurred this (Wednesday) morning, we are now trying to make the necessary preparations. Chigubu is no more, although we appreciate all the efforts that everyone has done,” said Mboweni.

Top journalist Hopewell Chin’ono reacted: “Dear ZANU-PF and your supporters, How do you feel now knowing that Clive Chigubu died because the cancer machines at Mpilo are not working?

“Is this your version of patriotism of letting citizens die because you are LOOTING public funds?

“How many more have to die before you act?

You are SHAMELESS!”

Mbingaldo TV said: “SAD NEWS A Zimbabwean Comedian Clive Chigubu has passed away after battling with cancer which had left him bedridden. It has been reported that Chigubu passed away this morning. May His Soul Rest in Peace!”

Another social media user Mutoti Learnmore said: “Just 2 days back, Bulawayo comedian Clive Chigubu who is known of the street phrase “Yeye” posted on his page that things were not well with him due to cancer which he was battling from. He failed to make it this morning. Rest easy Clive, Bulawayo will never be the same without you.”

Hip-hop artist Awa Khiwe commented: “Rest in Peace Clive Chigubu. It’s crazy to even write this, it feels wrong, like a bad joke. Yooo this is heartbreaking My condolences to his family, friends, colleagues and everyone who was touched by this amazing soul, his positive energy and extra-ordinary talent. I met Clive and instantly fell in love with his infectious energy and how he made everyone feel welcome around him. I can’t even imagine the pain his family, friends and fellow comedians must be feeling. May God comfort you.

“I always told him that this was my favourite joke and he would say next time I will write a joke about your village rap ngiyabuyeNkayi. We had so much to do, so little time. Life is sooo short. Phumula Qhawe uyibekile induku ebandla”

Chigubhu had been ill for some time and friends, colleagues and well-wishers were in the process of trying to get him medication after learning of his illness this week.

Mourners are gathered at number 33 Barbourfields.
