ChillSpot Records latest signee — Likkle Art — on Monday received a one-year scholarship from Associated Foods Zimbabwe, the manufactures of Mamas’ and Farmgold Brands, in which they will pay for his education.
The 15-year-old Likkle Art who is studying Form 2 at Budiriro High 1 earned the scholarship from the food manufacturer for positively impacting on the ghetto youths.
Born Darrel (Magachani) Furai, Likkle Art will have his school fees and other amenities paid for by AFZ including enrolling at a boarding school of his choice.
“I am grateful of the support from AFZ and also ChillSpot Records’ DJ Fantan, Ribbe and Levels for facilitating this deal for me.
“I am the first born in my family and currently in school. It is my hope to further my education while I pursue my passion which is music. I have been a fan of Killer T and I want to do my best in music,” he said.
Confirming the scholarship, AFZ Chief executive Simba Nyabadza, said they took the decision to support Likkle Art because of his talent.
“As a corporate we want the youngster to pursue his education because he has the skill but skill alone is not enough. He needs education so that he will be able to monetize his talent. So the contract is for one year.
“He can enroll at any school of his choice and we will support him. But what we want is for him to impact the society in a positive way. So it is deliberate that the contract is for one year,” he said.
Representing ChillSpot Records, Dj Fantan, said he was impressed by Likkle Art’s raw talent and want to nurture it until he blows up.
“He came at ChillSpot Records for the first time and I didn’t give him the opportunity then he came for the second time and he met Levels and again he did have that chance to showcase his talent. And he persisted until the third time when I gave him the chance to freestyle and I was impressed by his raw talent.
“The next thing we went into studio and I posted a video and we got a call from AFZ saying they wanted to sponsor him. So we are happy for him that he has managed to get a scholarship even before he released an album out,” DJ Fantan said.
AFZ manufactures foods such as Peanut Butter, Jam, Backed Beens, Orange Marmalade under Mama’s brand and also Canned fruits, Blueberry Jams, Strawberry Jams, Tomatoes Puree and paste under Farmgold brand.
