CAG, one of Zimbabwe’s leading public transport companies, has launched a major infrastructure initiative in partnership with local councils across Mashonaland West Province.
The project aims to construct a state-of-the-art bus terminus designed to transform the region’s public transport experience.
Speaking on the initiative, Elijah Tembo, Corporate Affairs Manager at CAG, expressed the company’s strong alignment with national development goals and its commitment to upgrading transport services.
“We believe in the vision of our country and the direction set by our honorable minister,” said Tembo. “Our collaboration with local authorities is focused on delivering projects that will meaningfully improve public transportation.”
The first phase of the project will see CAG working closely with the Karoi Town Council to develop a modern bus terminus.
The proposed facility will feature free Wi-Fi, comfortable seating, and clearly organized bus bays. Importantly, the terminus will be open to all public transport operators—not just CAG—ensuring inclusivity and broad utility for the travelling public.
The design also includes booking offices, modern restrooms, and nearby hotel facilities to cater to both commuters and long-distance travelers.
“We’ve already initiated discussions with the council, and progress has been encouraging,” Tembo said. “We’re confident this partnership will soon become a reality.”
Tembo emphasized that Karoi is just the beginning. CAG plans to roll out similar developments across the province, reinforcing its commitment to both local and national development.
“Our vision spans the entire Mashonaland West Province. We’re ready to work hand in hand with councils to develop not only the region’s infrastructure but also its economic potential.”
He also urged residents to adopt a forward-looking perspective and support initiatives that align with the country’s broader development agenda.
This project complements the government’s National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1), which identifies transport infrastructure as a key enabler of economic growth.
“Transport is a vital pillar of NDS1,” Tembo noted. “As a company, we’re fully committed to playing our part in building efficient and modern bus terminuses that support this national vision.”
In addition to its transport initiatives, CAG is also actively involved in agricultural ventures within the province—a testament to its broader contribution to local economic development.
As plans take shape, residents of Mashonaland West can expect not only improved transport facilities but also meaningful progress toward regional growth and modernization.
