HARARE — The Bridging Gaps Foundation has extended its congratulations to its founder, Dr Kudakwashe Tagwirei, following his appointment as Minister of Economic Development and Investment Promotion by President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa.
In a statement released by the organisation, the Bridging Gaps Foundation described the appointment as “a significant milestone and a recognition of the opportunity to serve Zimbabwe at an even greater level.”
The appointment, announced by the Office of the President and Cabinet on Thursday, 8 October 2026, was made in terms of Section 104(1) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe and took immediate effect.
The portfolio was separated from Finance, with Professor Mthuli Ncube reassigned to the Finance Ministry.
“A Distinguished Centre of Hope”
The Bridging Gaps Foundation, which describes itself as “a Distinguished Centre of Hope for Youths and Rural Communities,” framed the appointment as a continuation of its own mission to contribute to national development.
“We are proud of your commitment to empowering communities, transforming lives, and creating opportunities for people to fulfil their God-given purpose,” the statement read.
“We trust that this new responsibility will provide further opportunities to advance economic growth, promote investment, and contribute to a brighter future for Zimbabwe.”
The Foundation closed with a blessing: “Congratulations, Dr. Tagwirei! We wish you wisdom, strength, and God’s guidance as you take on this important national responsibility. Your achievement is our pride, and your service to the nation is an inspiration.”
Reaction to the appointment also flowed in from followers on social media, reflecting both celebration and expectation.
Garikai Kadzamira offered a biblical framing: “Congratulations Elder Doctor Minister T.K. You are the Joseph of our time. I don’t doubt your eligibility and so you are strategically placed like Esther.”
Denias Kagande wrote: “Congratulations Doc on your appointment! Wishing you every success as you serve and demonstrate your leadership to the nation!”
Abedinigo Mafusire focused on the economic mandate: “Congratulations Hon Cde Senator Dr K R Tagwirei on your recent appointment as the new Minister of Economic Development and Investment Promotion.
Such link will bridge ideas into meaningful hatchery initiatives that adds value to our economic wellbeing — willful creation of employment opportunities, enhanced local food production and unlimited service provisions always drive the intrinsic spirit of being self-reliant as a country going forward financially.”
A note of caution from one follower
Not all responses were purely celebratory. One follower, Anodiwa Joshua Munashe Zhou, used the opportunity to offer a pointed reflection on the challenges and expectations attached to the role.
“Dr KT it is possible to transform Zim. Your new office is under dispute because it’s a position of power,” Zhou wrote.
“There is a side that serves people. Electing sound policies promoting democracy over all else can attract capital. Don’t hinder democracy. Propose and consult for policies that solve problems of goods and services using market tools. The gov must provide incentives that promote multiple players. Fight poverty. It is multifaceted but don’t allow politics that promote poverty.”
The comment reflects a broader sentiment among some Zimbabweans that the new ministry’s success will be measured not only by investment announcements but by whether policy decisions serve the wider population.
As Minister of Economic Development and Investment Promotion, Dr Tagwirei takes charge of a portfolio explicitly focused on attracting investment, supporting economic growth and promoting development initiatives — responsibilities that now sit separate from the Finance Ministry.
Whether the appointment delivers on the expectations expressed by supporters — and addresses the concerns raised by critics — will be tested in the months ahead.
For now, the Bridging Gaps Foundation‘s message captures the sentiment of those closest to him: “Your achievement is our pride, and your service to the nation is an inspiration.”
