Excitement is growing as the date of the 10th annual Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards draws nearer, with continent-wide anticipation of how this year’s glittering event will turn out.
Charity Njanji, head of corporate affairs and public relations of MultiChoice Zimbabwe, said the live broadcast of the AMVCAs would feature on DStv’s Africa Magic channel on Saturday May 11 from 5pm, bringing all the preliminaries and action from one of Africa’s most prominent awards events into viewers’ homes.
“The AMVCAs reflect the diversity and innovation of African cinema and television and are eagerly awaited by fans of film and TV,” she said.
“This year’s awards promise thrilling adjustments, with the introduction of exciting new categories such as best actor and best actress in leading and supporting roles. There are 27 categories in all, including 16 non-voting and nine audience-voted categories, along with two respected recognition awards: the Lifetime Achievement and Trailblazer Awards.”.
The festive fun starts on the red carpet – hosted by personalities Toke Makinwa and Uti Nwachukwu – from where viewers can watch the continent’s biggest stars show some dazzling fashion creations. The awards event itself will start at 8pm.
The main awards show will be hosted by renowned television host and current host of Nigerian Idols IK Osakioduwa and will feature musical performances from Nigeria’s popular performers Seyi Sodimu, Shaffy Bello, Adekunle Gold, KCee, Chike and Congolese soukous singer Awilo Logomba.
“Here’s to a night on which we can all celebrate the depth and variety of the exceptional talent of Africa’s world of film and television,” said Njanji.
