Zimbabwe reggae/dancehall songstress — Allanah — has released her cover version of Soul Jah Love’s swansong — Kana Ndafa.
And the one good thing is that the sultry Allanah performed the song and made it her own in keeping with Soul Jah Love’s legacy alive.
The Zim dancehall star born Soul Muzavazvi Musaka died on February 16, 2021 on arrival at Mbuya Dorcas Hospital.
The star died aged 31 after a long battle with diabetes and also drug addiction. He was also declared a liberation hero by the ruling Zanu PF party.
Loved and adored by legion of fans as seen by thousands who gathered for his burial at Warren Hills Cemetery in defiance of Covid-19 regulations which stipulated that only 30 people were allowed at funeral, Soul Jah Love left an imprint in the genre.
Many of his contemporaries should draw lessons from his troubled life because as an artist, Sou Jah Love was a genius of our time and hugely talented on the mic.
Perhaps Allanah did justice to the song which already got rave reviews from across ages group both young and the old.
Kana Ndafa was Soul Jah Love’s swansong in which he bade farewell to his fans but not without a disclaimer.
He says as his casket is laid down people should not judge him because of hearsay. He says that most of what people heard about him was false.
He also talks about leading a lonely life after friends, associates and relatives had deserted him. But again in the song, it appears as though Soul Jah Love aka Chibaba was accepting his fate even in death and that it was his only place to rest.
The song draws a lot of emotions and one cannot help but empathize with Chibaba because death was fast approaching and he had no one to tell except put pen to paper.
