A Harare bouncer TAKUDZWA MICHAEL MUTTAGUTA was found dead on Wednesday at N1 Hotel in Central Business District in what police suspect as suicide.
The hotel’s general manger found Muttaguta’s body lying on the staircase leading to first floor and thought he was in drunken stupor.
However, upon return he noticed the body was still in the same position as it was before and he immediately raised alarm and called an ambulance.
After a check for signs of life by the ambulance crew it was established that Muttaguta was dead.
A police report RRB5224599 was made at ZRP KOPJE Police station.
According to preliminary investigations by police, Muttaguta “may have committed suicide taking into consideration that he had marital problems, financially unstable and had shown admissible intentions to commit suicide.”
The investigations further established that the now deceased was last seen by the next of kin on Sunday 31st of August at number 10 Glen Carron Highlands, Harare where he had gone to discuss his results determining drug abuse at his father’s place of residence.
“The results were negative but family members were worried about his behavior since he had a domestic dispute with his wife.
“That same day her wife Natasha Chihota NFPK communicated with his in-laws the now informant notifying them that the now deceased did not report home.
“A missing person report was made at Highlands police station on OB number 5036/22 on the 1ST of August 2022. That same night at around 2319 hours he texted an SMS to his father on whatsApp saying ‘I have tried to be strong but have failed I am sorry for everything’ and his father requested that he calls him but since then he never communicated and was nowhere to be found,” the police said.
Muttaguta is suspected to have consumed cyanide after police found a tumbler containing red liquid substance with cynade granules among other stuff at the scene.
