In a gripping clash at Nyamhunga Stadium, Ngezi Platinum emerged victorious with a 2-0 win against ZPC Kariba, marking the hosts’ second home defeat of the season.
This match highlighted the visitors’ strategic prowess and ability to seize critical moments, a stark contrast to ZPC Kariba’s struggles in attack.
The game commenced with ZPC Kariba showing early promise. Genius Hute dazzled on the right flank, repeatedly challenging Ngezi Platinum captain Qadri Amin, who fought back valiantly but struggled to penetrate the well-organized ZPC defense.
Macdonald Makuwe of Ngezi managed to create some tension in ZPC’s backline, only to be thwarted by a timely intervention from Ciphas Musikavanhu.
ZPC Kariba’s Moses Demera attempted to shift momentum with a long-range effort, following an incisive pass from Hute.
However, Ngezi’s Nyasha Gurende exhibited defensive solidity, blocking a crucial pass intended for Hute.
The breakthrough arrived in the 34th minute when Talent Chamboko capitalized on a chaotic scene in ZPC’s box, netting the first goal and sending Ngezi into halftime with a 1-0 advantage.
Despite dominating possession in the second half, ZPC Kariba struggled to convert their chances into goals. Ngezi Platinum, however, proved to be clinical, extending their lead in the 56th minute.
Marvelous Mukumba found the net with a precise shot, exploiting a gap in ZPC’s defense that left them scrambling.
An unfortunate twist occurred when Ngezi goalkeeper Darlington Murasiranwa sustained an injury while attempting to save a powerful long-range shot from Collen Muleya, adding to the visitors’ challenges but underscoring their resilience.
Ngezi Platinum’s solid defense and opportunistic finishing ultimately secured their 2-0 victory. For ZPC Kariba, the defeat serves as a crucial reminder of the pressing need to enhance their attacking efficiency in order to avoid further home setbacks.
ZPC Kariba coach Newton Chitewe expressed disappointment, noting the defensive lapses that led to both goals. “We fell short defensively, allowing Ngezi players too much space. The first goal was particularly concerning as it allowed them to turn and shoot without sufficient pressure,” he stated.
On the other hand, Ngezi Platinum coach Takesure Chiragwi praised his team’s performance, emphasizing the importance of the win.
“I want to thank the players for their effort. It’s challenging at this stage of the season, and winning away from home is a significant achievement for us,” he remarked, reflecting on the demanding 500-kilometer journey to the match.
As the season progresses, both teams face pivotal moments ahead, with ZPC Kariba seeking to rectify their defensive issues and Ngezi Platinum aiming to build on their momentum.
