Just when they were ready to hang up their dancing shoes, Green Stars pulled off the ultimate comeback—winning the 2025 Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance Festival in Mutare and walking away with a whopping US$15,000!
The Harare-based traditional dance troupe had one foot out the door, ready to call it quits after years of near misses. But the stars finally aligned, and boy, did they shine!
“We were ready to give up if we didn’t win this time,” said Alexis, the group’s 23-year-old director, with tears of joy still fresh. “This win is beyond our wildest dreams.”
Fresh from dazzling crowds at the Osaka Festival in Japan, Green Stars brought their A-game to the Mutare Showgrounds, performing the high-energy Chinyambera dance with jaw-dropping precision. With every stomp and spin, they electrified the crowd, proving why they’re Zimbabwe’s finest.
Trailing them were Goromonzi Arts Ensemble in second place, scooping US$10,000, and Semvumba Arts Ensemble of Manicaland in third, taking home US$7,500.

But beyond the prize money, Green Stars have even bigger plans.
“Transport is one of our biggest challenges, so we’re planning to buy a bus for the group,” Alexis shared. “We also want to share the prize money among the 15 members. It’s a win for all of us.”
Now with local and international stages behind them, the group has set its sights on taking Zimbabwean dance to the world. And with their blend of tradition, talent, and tenacity, the world better get ready.
The grand finale wasn’t just about the dance. It was a full-blown party with Alick Macheso, Jah Prayzah, and Enzo Ishall setting the stage on fire. Music, dance, and a touch of celebration made for an unforgettable day.
Delta Corporation’s marketing director Irimayi Muzorewa was all smiles.
“We’re proud of all the groups who participated. Chibuku Neshamwari continues to grow, and we’re already looking forward to next year’s edition,” he said.
The festival, held in partnership with the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) and the Zimbabwe National Traditional Dance Association (ZNTDA), ran under the theme ‘Ngoma Ngairire Shamwari, Tshay’sgubhu Mngane’ – and what a rhythm it was.
Green Stars didn’t just win a trophy—they won a nation’s heart. And if their next moves are anything like their dance steps, they’re just getting started.
