In a significant breakthrough, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has successfully apprehended several suspects in connection with two separate theft cases in Nyabira and Gweru.
The arrests, which were made possible through intelligence-led investigations and valuable tips from the public, demonstrate the effectiveness of community-police partnerships in combating crime.
Farai Chatikobo (23), Brandon Mukarati (19), and Muchaneta Phiri (33) were arrested for stealing property valued at a staggering US$3,500 from their employer, Jones Kawaga, at Sunnyside farm in Nyabira.
The suspects, who were employed by Kawaga, allegedly stole two motorbikes, three 67-watt solar panels, five bags of maize, 100 meters of poly pipe, an HP laptop, and a 12-volt lithium battery.
Through meticulous investigations, police officers tracked down Chatikobo, who led them to the recovery of most of the stolen property.
The suspects’ attempts to dispose of the stolen goods were foiled, and the property was recovered from various locations, including Phiri’s house and a bush.
In a separate incident, Nicholas Sibanda (17) and Clavian Josias were arrested for stealing a Honda Vezel vehicle belonging to Kudakwashe Marange in Gweru.
The vehicle was recovered after police received information about its whereabouts at a service station along the Harare-Bulawayo Road.
The suspects attempted to flee when spotted by police but were later apprehended hiding in a maize field.
The ZRP has expressed gratitude to the public for providing crucial information that led to the arrests.
This cooperation highlights the importance of community-police partnerships in combating crime.
