Chinhoyi — The Deputy Judge President of High Court Honorable Garainesu Mawadze has paid tribute to United Nations agent that promotes the welfare of children, UNICEF for its contributions towards the accessibility of children to justice system.
The Deputy Judge President was speaking during the official opening of the 2025 legal year at Chinhoyi High Court.
“It will be remiss of me of not to acknowledge the invaluable contributions of UNICEF to Victim Friendly Court System, through its partnership Unicef has played a significant role in enhancing and improving the effectiveness of the these courts across the country, their support has included training for judicial service staff, prosecutors, police officers and providing essential equipment for the courts covering witness travel expenses and providing refreshments.
“Unicef has always supported the establishment of victim friendly committees at national, provincial and district levels.” He said
The judge said the collobaration between Judiciary and Unicef stands as one of the best judiciary success story significantly improving public confidence in the judiciary.
“I extend my deepest appreciation to Unicef for their continued commitment and assistance and assure them that their relationship remains invaluable to us as the judiciary , the judiciary as the final arbiter deeply values and rely on such support of key stakeholders in ensuring the fair and just resolution of cases.” He said
The official opening of the legal year ran under the theme “Building public confidence in the judiciary through the multi-stakeholder participation”
Unicef has supported the judiciary to improve children access to legal protection through victim friendly courts where the courts has handled numerous cases related to child sexual exploitation and other abuse.
Meanwhile The Deputy Judge President revealed that the Anti-Corruption Commission did not record any graft case and the High Court recorded 1,386 cases in 2025 with 1380 cases being successfully finalized.
The Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Hon Marian Chombo, service chiefs and stakeholders in the judiciary attended the opening.
