Addressing the 5th Partnership Dialogue between the European Union (EU) and Zimbabwe on Thursday, EU Ambassador Jobst Von Kirchman underscored the importance of enhancing trade relations as a cornerstone of their growing partnership.
The meeting, hosted at Siyekhaya Estate in Harare, aimed to fostering constructive dialogue on shared interests while addressing areas of divergence.
Ambassador Von Kirchman expressed gratitude to the Zimbabwean government for its commitment to this ongoing dialogue, emphasizing that it serves as a vital platform for mutual understanding and cooperation.
“We are here not only to exchange views but to explore concrete avenues where we can deepen cooperation for the benefit of both Zimbabwe and the European Union,” Ambassador Von Kirchman stated.
A key focus was the potential for increased trade and investment in Zimbabwe.
Ambassador Von Kirchman noted that fostering governance, transparency, and accountability was essential for creating a favorable investment climate.
“By working together to enhance these areas, we can unlock economic growth and prosperity for Zimbabwe,” he emphasized.
The EU’s commitment to supporting Zimbabwe’s economic development aligns with its broader strategy of promoting sustainable partnerships in the region.
Ambassador Von Kirchman highlighted ongoing initiatives aimed at addressing debt resolution and economic reforms, which he believes could serve as engines for growth and stability.
“We see great potential in further collaboration on the Structured Dialogue Platform on Arrears Clearance and Debt Resolution,” Ambassador Von Kirchman said.
As global challenges such as geopolitical tensions and climate change continue to impact economies worldwide, the EU is keen on reinforcing its ties with Zimbabwe.
Ambassador Von Kirchman articulated that a stable political environment in Zimbabwe would not only benefit its citizens but also enhance trade relations with the EU.
“Our partnership is built on shared values and interests, including respect for human rights and adherence to the Sustainable Development Goals,” Ambassador Von Kirchman noted.
Ambassador Von Kirchman reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to nurturing a relationship based on trust and respect.
As discussions continue, both parties are optimistic about exploring new opportunities that will strengthen their partnership and contribute to economic development in Zimbabwe.
The dialogue reflects a mutual aspiration for a prosperous future, grounded in collaborative efforts that prioritize democratic governance and sustainable growth.
