CAPTION STORY: 25-year-old Charlotte Muziri crowned Miss Zimbabwe Queen at an inaugural pageant held at the weekend amid technical and logistical glitches. Twenty-six-year-old Gina Mutemeri from Harare and Bulawayo’s Stacy Hassam (27) were crowned the first and second princesses, respectively. The late start meant sound check was delayed while guests where tossed from one table to the other causing serious logistical nightmares for organisers Tendai Bongani Hunda and fellow beauty queen Hilda Mabu. The red carpet was none event and presenters were tending to photo shoots. But one could understand the situation at the Harare International Conference Centre as there hasn’t been a national beauty pageant for the last four years. Top performers Jah Prayzah and R&B star Trevor Dongo serenaded contestants as they glided on the ramp much to the delight of guests. The star-studded event was graced by pageant ‘royalty’ including former beauty queens — Miss Zimbabwe (1980) Shirley Munyanyiwa Chingoka, former Miss Universe Zimbabwe (1996) Langa Sibanda, Miss Zimbabwe 2007, Caroline Marufu, former Miss Universe Zimbabwe, Lisa Morgan. Also, part of the judges was reigning Miss World Zimbabwe Belinda Potts, former Miss Tourism Zimbabwe Samantha Tshuma while Zari Hassan was the guest judge.
