Some 200 less privileged families from Mudzi and Mt Darwin Districts have benefitted from proceeds from POTRAZ Charity Golf Day.
The families received blankets and food from POTRAZ with support from Econet, NetOne, DFA, NBS, Liquid Intelligent Technologies, Innovative Technologies, TelOne, Telco, ZB Bank and Fedex who all contributed to the POTRAZ charity golf tourney held on 16 June 2023.
Speaking at the handover of the goods, POTRAZ Director General Dr Gift Machengete said they were humbled by the enormous support from stakeholders.
“Renowned author, Robin Sharma remarked, and I quote: ‘I learned to give not because I have much; but because I know exactly how it feels to have NOTHING’.
“Whether we come from lack or plenty, we can surely imagine and appreciate how it feels to have nothing and how it would feel to get some relief from that state of lack,” Dr Machengete said.
“It is against this background that this occasion excites me and gives me a great sense of fulfilment – fulfilment from knowing that we are making a difference in the lives of a few people.
“It is our moral right to make a difference – we owe it to humanity.
“In the words of Nelson Mandela ‘Overcoming poverty is not a task of charity, it is an act of justice.’ Nelson Mandela also reminds us that ‘It is in our hands to make a better world for all who live in it’.”
Dr Machengete said the beneficiaries were identified through the Department of Social Welfare in the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare.
He thanked the Department of Social Welfare, stakeholders – individuals and corporates for the support.
