ZPC Kariba claimed a 2-0 win over Manica Diamonds at Nyamhunga Stadium, with Malvin Hwata scoring the opener in the fourth minute.
Led by captain Collen Muleya, the home side controlled much of the possession, while Munashe Kamwendo tested the Manica Diamonds duo of Pascal Shumbaimwe and Ask Rupande, who stood firm in defense.
In the first half, Manica Diamonds’s Fortune Binzi had a chance, but his effort went wayward. The second half saw both teams playing equally well, with Manica Diamonds nearly scoring through Russell Kahiki, who missed a scorcher.
However, ZPC Kariba‘s Munashe Kamwendo scored the second goal in the 68th minute from a corner kick by Wayne Kamurai.
Manica Diamonds’ Ian Sibelo, a former ZPC player, had a chance to score, but his effort was foiled by ZPC goalie Future Sibanda.
The match ended with ZPC Kariba winning 2-0. Manica Diamonds Head Coach, Tafadzwa Mashiri, expressed disappointment with the team’s performance, citing poor game management and conceding early goals.
“It’s disappointing to say the least because we thought we had made enough preparations and had an equal chance to redeem ourselves but we failed to manage the game and considered early.
“When you become exposed, you give the opponent any upper hand and it’s not easy to come back from the ashes but nevertheless, we expect to perform better and win our next matches,” Mashiri said.
ZPC Kariba assistant Head coach, Newton Chitewe, was happy with the team’s performance.
“Am happy that we came to winning ways. Winning by two goals to zero is an advantage to us. What we planned went very well.
“I also want to give credit to our defence, they played well leading to this scoreline. In the past, we have suffered because of leakage in defense but kudos, today they played very well,” Chitewe said.
