Kariba – In a thrilling contest that ended without a goal, ZPC Kariba FC and Dynamos FC battled to a 0-0 draw at the Kariba Stadium.
Despite the lack of scoring, the match showcased a wealth of missed opportunities and impressive defensive displays from both sides.
The game started with ZPC Kariba on the front foot, as Collen Muleya squandered a promising chance in the 4th minute, firing a long-range grounder wide after receiving a pass from Fanuel Shoko.
Dynamos FC quickly retaliated, with Enasio Perezo Jnr causing trouble for ZPC keeper Tatenda Munditi, but the defense managed to clear the threat just in time.
As the match unfolded, Dynamos began to establish a foothold in midfield, with their attacking midfielder Tellmore Pio orchestrating play. However, ZPC’s defense, led by Marshal Gavaza, stood firm against Brandon Jerimani’s attempts to break through.
The first half saw both teams creating chances, yet failing to capitalize. ZPC’s Stanley Ngala came agonizingly close with a missed header from a corner in the 37th minute, while Tinashe Kamwendo wasted a clear opportunity just after halftime.
Dynamos’ Ross Ngwenya also found himself in a promising position in the 52nd minute but could not convert after a defensive lapse from ZPC.
The introduction of Wayne Kamurai for ZPC in the second half injected new energy into the game, yet the deadlock persisted. ZPC’s Munashe Kamwendo narrowly missed a right flank kick in the 65th minute, keeping the scoreline unchanged.
As the clock wound down, ZPC’s Charles Munyanyi directed a header towards goal, but it was not enough to break the deadlock, and the match concluded in a frustrating stalemate.
Post-match, ZPC Kariba coach Newton Chitewe reflected on the performance, stating, “We had the upper hand but lacked the penetration to convert our chances.
“I believe we played well overall, especially compared to our last outing here.” He acknowledged Dynamos’ organized defense, which effectively neutralized his team’s wingers.
Dynamos head coach Saul Chaminuka echoed similar sentiments, noting, “You cannot complain. We looked good and controlled the game, but we just couldn’t find the back of the net when it mattered most.”
Both teams will look to improve their finishing as they prepare for their upcoming fixtures, hoping to turn scoring opportunities into points in the league standings.
