South Africa’s Spirit of Praise 10 featuring Everton Mlalazi have delivered one of the simplest music videos ever created which is moving and yet powerful — Ndofamba naJesu.
The one good thing about Ndofamba naJesu is not only that it is a medley but has that authentically Zimbabwean sound.
Ndofamba naJesu which means (I walk with Jesus) has broken boundaries as much as it is sung in Shona, one of Zimbabwe’s popular languages, it captures the imagination of even non-Shona speakers.
And Mlalazi with help of the band serenaded worshippers as the chords, the sound and vocals were just on point.
The song was recorded live at the packed Sunbet Arena in Tshwane and it is easy to see why the atmosphere was electric and uplifting.
Energy was high on and off the stage as the multitudes sang along to every bit of the song.
“This is amazing my goodness I see I see the crowd was already buzzing And I was thinking “This is a Shona song how is it going to do here?” was thinking “This is a Shona song how is it going to do here?” Mlalazi said in a recorded interview prior to the release of the song.
According to Mlalazi Ndofamba naJesu is derived from the experience of David and Goliath, for those not in the know, “there was panic in the camp of the Israelites because they were thinking ‘oh my goodness what are we going to do?’ this Philistine Champion Goliath is telling us he’s going to annihilate all of us and so everybody was scared until little David came through and was like ‘who is this guy who is talking so ill about my God? I’m going to fight him’ and what he says there is that ‘I come with you only with the name of God do not come with a spear, I do not come with a javelin, I do not come with a sword, just come with the name of God’” explained Mlalazi about the song.
That said, Spirit of Praise is really growing big in the hearts of many people in Zimbabwe and Mlalazi being featured it keeps better and better!
