The #RoastofPearl is heating up! South Africa’s favourite diva, Somizi “SomGaga” Mhlongo, has been unveiled as the Roastmaster for the Comedy Central Roast of Pearl Thusi.
He’ll be setting the stage aflame with his snarky retorts and catty clapbacks on the show which will be broadcast on Comedy Central (DStv Channel 122) at 9pm CAT on 8 December 2024.
Somizi, a former Roastee himself who also served on the panel for Kenny Kunene’s Roast, needs little introduction to South African audiences.
The actor, presenter, choreographer, Idols judge, style icon and social butterfly has embedded himself in popular culture as an entertainer who is not afraid to speak up – and ruffle a few feathers!
Says Somizi of his gig as Pearl’s Roastmaster, “I know Pearl very well, and she and I are no strangers to the media spotlight. But she’s never been in the Roast hot seat before – I have, and I can tell her that it’s no picnic. Those flames are real!
“We will have to see whether that perfectly poised facade of hers will crumble or if she will maintain her composure when she is facing a barrage of insults being hurled at her like ping-pong balls.
But I have faith in our Black Pearl. I am so ready to pull out all the stops to make this a Roast for the history books – and rest assured, the fur and feathers are going to fly!”
