Schweppes Zimbabwe Limited has urged other companies to support the less privileged in communities they operate as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility.
Speaking at the handover of mazoe drinks and sanitary pads to Chinyaradzo Children’s Home in Highfield today Ropafadzo Gwanetsa, the Schweppes Zimbabwe Limited Corporate Affairs Executive, said the more companies pull together their resources the better for the vulnerable communities.
“This drive that we are on right is to engage our communities that we operate in with a focus on marginalised communities the elderly, the orphaned children that we are visiting today so that at least they get support from corporates in terms of their needs and how we can collaborate so that our programmes are sustainable.
“Mainly we are driven by SGD goals so we need to make sure that whatever commitments that we are making to communities all those initiatives are sustainable, they need to be replicated so that it’s just not a short-term measure that we are putting in place but then its sustainable. We need to make sure that our communities are supported.
“March is a women’s month I think as a business we saw it necessary to reach out to the vulnerable communities because this is where we operate in this is where we generate business so this campaign was driven by women’s month,” Gwanetsa said.
Supervisor at the home, Veinah Mudhara said the home was also in need of not just food but also refurbishment.
She, however thanked Schweppes Zimbabwe for the Mazoe drinks and fruit juices donations saying it would go a long way in refreshing the children especially during the Easter Holidays.
Mudhara said Chinyaradzo Children’s Home used to host 60 children but it has since scaled down to 33 because some rooms are not usable.
There are 18 boys and 15 girls who were brought in through the department of social welfare and some of them were abandoned while other have no traceable or known relatives and abused children in communities or child headed families.
Some of the children are enrolled at different schools while others were being taken care of by well-wishers who ensure they pay their school fees.
Besides donating to Chinyaradzo Children’s Home, Schweppes Zimbabwe Limited donated some fruit juices including the popular Mazoe range of juices to Bumhudzo Old People’s Home in Chitungwiza.
