THE town of Rusape is buzzing with excitement as it prepares to host the national World AIDS Day commemorations on December 1, 2024.
Spencer Banguza, Makoni District AIDS Coordinator for the National AIDS Council, is thrilled to be hosting the event in Rusape.
“We are honored to be hosting this year’s World AIDS Day commemorations,” said Banguza. “We have been working tirelessly to ensure that the event is a success, and we are excited to share our preparations with the nation.”
The National AIDS Council has been working closely with various stakeholders, including provincial, district, and national level sub-committees, to ensure that the event is well-organized and effective.
This year’s commemorations promise to be exciting, with a range of activities lined up, including a marathon, which will be held for the first time as a pre-event activity.
Athletes from all over the country are expected to participate in the marathon, which aims to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS.
As part of their efforts to combat HIV and AIDS, the National AIDS Council has been working to curb new infections and provide quality treatment and support services to clients.
The council has also been running various programs, including community-based initiatives, to promote awareness and prevention.
Banguza emphasized the importance of community involvement in the fight against HIV and AIDS. “We believe that community-based initiatives are key to combating HIV and AIDS,” he said. “We are working closely with community leaders and organizations to promote awareness and prevention.”
