Rudziwi High School Rallies Support to Build Girls’ Hostel

Rudziwi, Zimbabwe – Rudziwi High School recently held a vibrant and successful fundraising event under the theme “Together We Can Make a Brighter Future for Our Students,” spearheaded by alumnus and CEO Dr. Paradzai Munyede (Class of 1991–1994).

The event aimed to mobilize resources for the construction of a girls’ hostel—a much-needed facility intended to address pressing challenges faced by female students, including long commutes, school dropouts, and early pregnancies.

School Headmaster Chamunorwa Mutewera welcomed guests and highlighted Rudziwi High School’s growing academic success.

“We have seen a remarkable increase in high-performing students, with 11 learners attaining 20 points or more at A-level, and 50 students achieving five or more passes at O-level,” he shared.

The school is also thriving in extracurricular domains, including sports, clubs, and community engagement.

As part of ongoing development, Rudziwi has completed a number of key infrastructure projects—among them new A-level classrooms, teacher cottages, and renovations.

Income-generating projects such as fishery, poultry, uniform sales, farming, and goat rearing have been launched to support school operations. Students are also benefitting from HEXCO-accredited practical skills training.

The school aims to expand its boarding facilities, prioritizing the construction of a girls’ hostel by 2026.

Guest of honour Delis Mazambani praised the initiative, calling it a milestone in promoting girls’ education. “As a community, it is our duty to uplift our schools and students. This hostel will be a game-changer for our girls,” she said.

One of the highlights of the event was the launch of the “Bring a Bag of Cement” campaign, urging attendees to donate construction materials.

The campaign was met with overwhelming support—collecting 181 bags of cement, equivalent to 9.5 tonnes—bringing the school a step closer to turning the hostel vision into reality.

Dr. Munyede, the driving force behind the event, spoke passionately about his motivation. “I reflected on my humble beginnings and knew I had to give back.

“The challenges facing our girls—especially walking long distances, early pregnancies, and dropping out—require real solutions,” he said. “I am proud to support the school that shaped who I am today.”

The event also celebrated academic excellence, awarding prizes to top-performing students. Dr. Munyede’s initiative is not just about bricks and mortar—it is about providing a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment that allows every student, especially girls, to thrive.

The “Bring a Bag of Cement” campaign will remain ongoing, with the school targeting the completion of the girls’ hostel by 2026.

The event proved the power of alumni engagement and community spirit in transforming education.

With committed leadership, community backing, and a clear vision, Rudziwi High School is poised to not only improve student welfare but also inspire future generations to dream bigger.
