Mobile telecommunications giant NetOne has officially launched the OneHealth Telemedicine Virtual Hospital in Mhangura, marking a major step in expanding inclusive, technology-driven healthcare delivery across Zimbabwe.

The initiative represents a strategic convergence of innovation, public policy and social responsibility, bringing quality healthcare services within reach of communities that have long faced challenges related to distance, cost and limited access to specialist care.

Officially opening the facility, NetOne Group Chief Executive Officer Eng Raphael Mushanawani said the project affirms the principle that geography should no longer determine the quality of healthcare one receives.

“The OneHealth Telemedicine Virtual Hospital enables virtual consultations, remote diagnostics and access to specialist medical expertise through NetOne’s robust digital infrastructure,” he said.

“For the people of Mhangura and surrounding communities, this means reduced travel costs, faster medical attention and improved health outcomes — particularly for expectant mothers, the elderly and patients living with chronic conditions.

“This is technology with a human face. It brings healthcare closer to the people and restores dignity in access to medical services,” Eng Mushanawani added.

The programme is being rolled out under the visionary leadership of His Excellency President Cde Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa and Her Excellency the First Lady, Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa, whose advocacy for inclusive, people-centred healthcare continues to shape service delivery nationwide.

Eng Mushanawani expressed NetOne’s appreciation to Their Excellencies for championing development that “leaves no one and no place behind.”

He also commended the Minister of Health and Child Care, Hon Dr Douglas T. Mombeshora (MP), for his leadership in driving health sector modernisation.

The Minister’s presence at the launch underscored Government’s commitment to embracing innovation, digital health solutions and strategic partnerships that enhance equitable access to care.

The Mhangura Telemedicine Virtual Hospital directly supports the objectives of National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1), particularly in improving health outcomes, leveraging information and communication technologies and modernising public service delivery.

As Zimbabwe transitions into National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2), the project stands as a practical demonstration of continuity in implementing the country’s development blueprint and advancing Vision 2030, which seeks to transform Zimbabwe into an upper-middle-income economy.

“A healthy nation is a productive nation, and a connected nation is a competitive nation. Telemedicine is not the future — it is the present,” Eng Mushanawani said.

Through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, NetOne is positioning itself not only as a telecommunications provider but as a key development partner investing in sustainable impact across health, education and community development.

The project has been implemented in partnership with Zim Smart Village, led by Dr Jokwiro, and OneHealth, highlighting the power of collaboration between Government, state-owned enterprises and innovation-driven partners.

The OneHealth Telemedicine Virtual Hospital in Mhangura stands as clear evidence that connectivity bridges gaps, innovation saves lives and development is ultimately measured by its impact on ordinary citizens.

With this milestone, NetOne continues to redefine healthcare access and advance a healthier, more inclusive Zimbabwe — delivering care closer to communities, one connection at a time.
