HARARE — A newly established business is looking to solve one of Zimbabwe’s most persistent logistical challenges: maintaining an uninterrupted cold chain in a country where power outages and equipment breakdowns can spell disaster for perishable goods.
Mobicity Freezers Zimbabwe has launched a fleet of mobile freezer trailers designed to provide temporary and emergency refrigeration across multiple sectors, from retail and agriculture to hospitality and mining.
The company is positioning itself as a flexible cold-chain partner for businesses that depend on keeping products frozen, chilled, or blast-frozen.
A Solution for Power Outages and Peak Demand
For supermarkets, restaurants, and hotels, refrigeration failures or planned maintenance can result in thousands of dollars in lost stock.
Mobicity Freezers offers an alternative: a towable freezer unit delivered to the customer’s location, capable of reaching temperatures as low as –25°C and storing up to 1.8 tonnes of product—roughly 300 beverage cases.
The units can be powered by generator or mains electricity, with solar-powered options planned for the future. Each trailer features a digital thermostat for precise temperature control and rear double doors for easy access.
“Whether it’s a power outage, a busy holiday season, or a temporary event, our mobile freezers provide business continuity when refrigeration is compromised,” the company states in its product documentation.
From Harvest to Table: Supporting Agriculture
Farmers and agricultural producers are a key target market for the service. Zimbabwe loses a significant portion of its fresh produce to post-harvest spoilage, often due to inadequate storage and transport.
Mobicity Freezers offers cold-chain transportation for fresh fruits, vegetables, flowers, herbs, and horticultural produce, as well as storage for harvested crops before delivery to markets or processors.
Meat, fish, poultry, and dairy products can also be preserved using the units’ blast-freezing and chilling functions.
Events, Mining, and Industrial Applications
The hospitality and events sector stands to benefit from the service, with mobile refrigeration available for weddings, concerts, sporting events, and corporate functions.
Pubs, sports clubs, and caterers can use the trailers to keep beverages chilled and store food safely during busy weekends and festivals.
Mining companies operating in remote locations, where permanent cold rooms may be unavailable, can also use the service to keep food supplies fresh for camp kitchens.
Similarly, construction sites and industrial operations can benefit from temporary refrigeration where infrastructure is still being developed.
