Socialite and nudist — Mitchelle Amuli — who was among the three passengers who died in an inferno after a Rolls Royce Wraith they were traveling in collided head-on with a Honda Fit along Borrowdale Road will finally be buried according to Islamic religion as per her father’s wish.
Ever since the crash, Mitchell’s mother Yolanda Kuvaonga and father Ishamel Amuli have been haggling over how to bury her, with the mother favouring a Christian burial while the father wants to bury his daughter with Islamic rites.
The different types of funeral would take place at different cemeteries.
However, the court upheld the judgment in which Amuli had been granted a burial order.
“I conclude that the burial order was correctly issued ad there’s nothing wrong with it’s issuance. It remains valid,” said the judge.
This means that the burial would go ahead as Amuli had wanted and in line with Islamic religion.
Mitchelle was affectionately known as Moana, obviously from the 2016 Disney animated adventure film about of the same name.
Interestingly, Moana is the daughter of chief Tui, who embarks on a journey to return the heart of goddess Te Fitti from Maui, a demigod, after the plants and the fish on her island start dying due to a blight.
In the film MOANA, Disney tells the story of a Polynesian island chief’s adolescent daughter who’s been raised to become the next leader of her people. Moana (voiced by Auli’i Cravalho) has always had a special relationship with the ocean and has grown up believing her grandmother’s tales about how shape-shifting demigod Maui cursed the islands by stealing the ancient Heart of Te Fiti, which grants the power of creation. When the coconut harvest fails and the fishermen return with empty nets, Moana takes her grandmother’s advice and sets sail against her father’s rules. Her quest is to find the exiled Maui (Dwayne Johnson) and deliver him across the sea to return that which he stole a millennium ago. Along the way, the mighty Maui mentors Moana on how to be a wayfinder — voyager — as her people were meant to be.
But in reality Zimbabwe’s very own Moana died a painful death so much so that in one of her videos she told of how she dreamt about ‘gasping for air’ and that ‘something was wrong with me’.
Just as one of the songs on Moana Soundtrack by Auli’i (note the coincidence with Amuli) Cravalho titled How Far I’ll Go bears some references to our slay queen.
