Zimbabwe’s hip-hop legend Maskiri is back in the spotlight, bringing fans a nostalgic yet fierce new track titled Harare Drive.
The single marks a powerful comeback for the rapper, known for his sharp wordplay and bold metaphors.
Just like the winding, bumpy road it’s named after, Harare Drive reflects Maskiri’s journey in the music industry—full of highs, lows, and everything in between.
For over two decades, Maskiri, born Alishias Musimbe, has been a trailblazer in Zimbabwean hip-hop, inspiring a generation of artists like Ti Gonzi. In Harare Drive, he’s in top form, delivering punchline after punchline with his signature grit.
The track is a reminder to newer rappers that Maskiri, the self-proclaimed “Hyena of Rap,” still dominates.
“Mese muri ma goats, inini ndiri bere,” he raps—positioning himself as the predator among lesser rivals. Maskiri doesn’t hold back in his critique of the current hip-hop scene either, claiming that today’s rappers lack creativity and originality.
He takes pride in being one of the founders of Zim Hip-Hop, insisting he deserves recognition.
