Mashonaland West Unites to Tackle Substance Abuse

By Violet Mashonga

Mashonaland West Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Marian Chombo, has called for a united, comprehensive response to substance abuse.

Speaking at a multi-stakeholder sensitization meeting on August 4, 2025, Hon. Chombo urged stakeholders to contribute financially, materially, and logistically to prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation efforts.

“We must work together to create a brighter, healthier future for all,” she said.

The meeting brought together government ministries, traditional leaders, faith-based groups, and private sector representatives.

Health Minister Hon. Douglas Mombeshora stressed the urgency of funding support to protect youth and communities from the escalating crisis.

A dedicated account has been set up to receive donations, with a goal of raising $250,000 for anti-substance abuse initiatives.

Stakeholders pledged support, reaffirming that the fight against substance abuse is a shared responsibility.

Hon. Chombo closed by urging immediate action: “Let’s mobilize. Let’s act.”
