Sungura musician Alick Macheso makes a welcome return to Aquatic Complex on 27 April 2024 in Chitungwiza in what appears to be a Family Affair.
All the performing artistes on the line up are related by blood, one way or the other.
For instance, there is Tatenda and Esau who are Macheso brothers, then there is Tindo and Mark, the Ngwazi brothers, there is also Peter and Tongai Jnr Moyo also brothers.
The only odd one out perhaps if you want to stretch the imagination is Nicholas Zakaria. But again, he is an elder to Macheso.
The two worked as Khiama Boys back then before Macheso left to form the Orchestra Mberikwazvo, the band that has backed him since.
The beauty of the concert is that it is fostering those relationships in song and dance.
Previously, there have been reports of musicians or rather relatives who didn’t see eye to eye even though at one point were in same group.
You talk of Pengaudzoke brothers — Daiton and Somanje — these two ended up not seeing or performing together even though they were once a formidable force.
This is the sort of thing that the Macheso Homecoming gig is trying to do away with so that families remain close and together.
The concert organized by award-winning promoters — Chipaz Promotions — promises nothing but fireworks as fans get to see the best of families rocking one stage.
Partson Chimbodza aka Chipaz had this to say about the gig: “It’s a family affair — Tongai Moyo, Peter Moyo, Mark Ngwazi, Tindo Ngwazi, Esau Macheso, Tatenda Macheso and Macheso the man himself is a product of Zakaria.”
On why he dubbed it the homecoming gig, Chipaz said Macheso last performed at Aquatic Complex in September 2023.
And for those in the know, Macheso identifies with Chitungwiza having lived there for a very longtime before moving to the suburbs in Waterfalls.
