Zvimba — The Deputy Minister of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture Emily Jesaya has officially commissioned a multi purpose sports court in Zvimba that was funded by Lotteries and Gaming Board.
Minister Jesaya said that the project was part of the Ministry’s projects under 100 day cycle plan which configures with government’s national development strategy
“This facility embodies our commitment to fostering an environment where every citizen can engage in healthy activities, build community spirit and develop their talents.
The project configures well with the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1), which underscores sports development as a catalyst for economic growth and social cohesion.
The NDS1 emphasizes on the establishment of centres of sporting excellence in all provinces. Investing in such facilities, we are not only promoting physical well-being but also further establishing a sporting hub for identification and nurturing of raw rich talent within our youths, paving the way for a brighter future,” she said.
” Let us recognize the positive impact that Karigamombe Multi-purpose Sports Court will have on our community, the industry that will be supported by this infrastructure. It will serve as a hub for talent development, a space for healthy competition, and a venue for community and cultural events that will bring us together.”
She addressed the guests at the commissioning of the sports court in Zvimba.
Sheila Tshuma, Lotteries and Gaming Board member said the project is one of the many community projects Lotteries and Gaming Board has ploughed back in communities from proceeds of the gaming Industry.
“As the Lotteries and Gaming Board this project is one of those community projects we have as we plough back in communities and we are proud in partnering Ministry of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture in promoting sports development especially in marginalized communities such as this one where both the community and school will benefit from using this multi purpose sports court”.
Zvimba South Costituency Legislator Dexter Malinganiso hailed the construction of the sports court as it will help in talent development of sports that were previously known as a preserve of the elite.
“I would like to singularly appreciate Ministry of Sports for using a whole of government approach in coming with this strategy project that will go a long way in sports development of grassroots communities such as here in Zvimba farming community of Ward 19 and surrounding areas where the youths will now have a chance to excel in sports such as tennis, volleyball and netball in a single court and this dovetail with government’s national development strategies that is driven with the mantra, “nyika inovakwa nevene vayo,” he said.
The state of art sports court can be converted to be used either for netball, tennis or volleyball saving space and resources as the single court serves for different sporting discipline
