Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Barbara Rwodzi has urged Zimbabweans to take pride in national fabric saying it was a symbol of heritage and culture.

The national fabric which was inspired by the First Lady Amai Auxillia Mnangagwa is being distributed throughout the country from Zimbabwe Tourism Authority.

Available in all shades, the national fabric is selling at US$4 per metre countrywide.

Speaking at the National Fabric Dinner held in Harare last week, Rwodzi said Zimbabweans should take pride in the fabric which resembles the Great Zimbabwe.

She said throughout her travels abroad she was admired for donning the national dresses which sets her apart from the European style of dressing of miniskirts, tights and monokinis.

“The good thing about our national dress is that it covers up everything giving us the pride and dignity,” she said to wild applauses.

Rwodzi also showered praise on Amai Mnangagwa saying the national dress would go a long way in promoting patriotism, cultural heritage, and national identity.

She paid tribute to Amai Mnangagwa for her efforts in promoting gastronomy tourism, as Zimbabwe will hold the first ever Gastronomy Showcase in Victoria Falls this July where other southern African countries will participate.

The dinner held at Harare Exhibition Park was organized by YoungWomen4ED in partnership with ZTA. Attendees also got an opportunity to sample Zimbabwean traditional cuisine.
