Kariba Municipality has announced a collaborative effort with the Ministry of Health to conduct a larviciding program aimed at controlling mosquito breeding in the area.
The initiative comes in response to increasing complaints from residents regarding frequent mosquito bites.
Public Relations Officer Gabriel Mazivofa stated, “We understand the concerns of our residents regarding mosquito bites and the associated health risks. This program is a proactive measure to ensure the safety and well-being of our community.”
The larviciding exercise started today October 16 to October 22, 2024. Residents and stakeholders are encouraged to report any waterlogged areas that could serve as potential mosquito breeding sites. Mazivofa emphasized the importance of community involvement, saying, “Your input is invaluable. We need your help to identify problem areas so we can effectively address this issue.”
In addition to the larviciding efforts, the Municipality will also begin the removal of weeds from sewer ponds, further reducing potential mosquito habitats.
Local resident, Clever Fositinyo, expressed relief at the municipality’s response: “It’s about time something was done. The mosquito problem has been unbearable, especially at night.” Another resident, loraine Chinemushonga , added, “We appreciate the municipality’s efforts and hope this will lead to a healthier community.”
The Municipality urges all residents and stakeholders to cooperate with the teams conducting these activities to ensure a successful outcome and improve the overall health and safety of the Kariba community.
