Gweru — Hodzeko Arts and Culture Association (HACA) recently held a one-day workshop aimed at empowering poets with disabilities through its “Voices of Resilience” project.
The event brought together poets with and without disabilities, creating an inclusive, creative space that celebrated talent, built confidence, and encouraged self-expression through poetry.
The workshop was supported by the Culture Fund of Zimbabwe Trust and the European Union under the CreativeACTIONs 2 programme, which supports the growth of Zimbabwe’s cultural industries.
HACA Executive Director Dumisani Ndlovu hailed the workshop as a “transformative experience,” praising participants for their creativity and resilience. He also acknowledged support from stakeholders including the Zimbabwe Republic Police.
Board Chairperson Mavis Koslek expressed excitement about future projects, including a Shona anthology and a Braille edition.
“We’re thrilled to keep building on this momentum and to showcase these powerful voices,” she said.
Participants described the workshop as eye-opening.
“Tadzidza chaizvo,” said Maria Sibanda, thanking organizers for the skills imparted. Another participant, Miriro Mutasa, added, “A day worth spending—kudzidza hakuperi.”
Through this initiative, HACA reaffirmed its commitment to inclusivity, creativity, and using the arts to empower marginalized communities and drive social change.
