Hurungwe — A 37-year-old man, Trymore Tore, has been arrested in connection with the shocking murders of his wife, niece, and the village head in a chilling case that has left the community reeling.
The horrific events unfolded over a span of just two days, leading to widespread outrage and demands for justice in Mubairecheni Village.
According to police spokesperson Paul Nyathi, preliminary investigations reveal that Tore was embroiled in domestic disputes with his wife, Moline Chibayanzara, 21.
The situation escalated tragically when the village head, Kuwesu Masawu, 56, attempted to mediate the conflict.
The bodies of the three victims were discovered on February 17, 2025, in various locations around the village. Chibayanzara’s body was found in a pit latrine, wrapped in a blue blanket, exhibiting multiple injuries to her head.
Nearby, the body of Tore’s 17-year-old niece was uncovered approximately 60 meters from his homestead, covered with tree branches and showing signs of trauma, including a swollen head and a cut on her forehead. A knife was found beside her body, raising further suspicions.
The third victim, village head Masawu, was discovered buried in a shallow grave behind Tore’s house, with his head decapitated and a deep cut on his neck. The brutality of the murders has sent shockwaves through the community, prompting calls for increased security and support for families facing domestic violence.
Local chief Chindu, born Abel Mbasera, expressed his outrage over the tragic events. “This is an unimaginable tragedy. We must come together as a community to support the families affected and ensure that such violence does not happen again. It is essential that we address the issue of domestic disputes before they escalate to violence,” he stated.
Villagers reported hearing loud arguments between Tore and his wife on February 15, 2025. Masawu was last seen heading to their homestead to mediate their disputes, and the niece was also reported to have visited on February 16 to watch movies.
As the investigation unfolds, community leaders and residents are calling for more resources to help families in crisis and to educate them about conflict resolution.
The police are urging anyone with information about the case to come forward, ensuring that justice is served for the three lives lost in this tragic incident.
The Hurungwe community stands united in mourning and in seeking justice, vowing to work together to prevent further tragedies in the future.
